For independant travellers who wish to go by themselves, go to the Baixa district by metro and get out at Martim Moniz station. From here you will have to climb your way up to Calçada do Monte.

Another way is to get out at Chiado subway station, take the famous tram nr. 28 on Camoes Square (Praça de Camoes) and ask for stop "Largo da Graça" to the driver. Then ask your way down to the house.
