Aldeia da Mata Pequena

Aldeia da Mata Pequena is composed of a total of six independent houses three with one bedroom, two with two bedrooms and one with three bedrooms. The basic capacity is 20 people, which can be extended to 32 as each house has a sofa cum bed in the sitting room. Thus, the one bedroom house can sleep up to four people, the two bedroom house up to six people and the three bedroom house up to eight people. Each house has its own personality and unique character.

Cigarra was her nickname because she loved to sing and had a fine voice. She would sit in her garden, in the shade of a great fig tree overlooking the fields and pod beans at an ancient stone table. Casa da Cigarra is equipped with central heating, one twin room, a bathroom with a bathtub, a living-room, a kitchen equipped with an oven, fridge, freezer and basic utensils, a little garden with chairs and a table for meals and barbecues. Each house has a sofa bed in the sitting room. The charge for the use of the sofa bed is €10 per person per night. This one bedroom house can sleep up to four people.

The Casa da Palha was formerly a barn. After a hard day's work in the fields, deep, sweetly scented hay "mattresses" would provide a welcome break in the hayloft.

The Casa da Ti Jacinta is a traditional Portuguese house. In the "outside house", now the sitting-room, the food was prepared to be cooked next door in the welcoming kitchen, with its traditional salting tub and oven. A stairwell in the middle of the house leads to two large bedrooms on the upper floor. In the garden there are rabbits and chickens to feed every morning.

Padeirão means baker in Portuguese. Was he a large baker or a great baker? They say that he was both. Perhaps that is why everything in this house is so big; the sitting room, the kitchen, the bedrooms and even the pigsty is big enough for us to imagine the healthy size of its former occupants. The thick walls tell their own story. This is the oldest house in the village. Many have eaten their fill of the bread that was kneaded by the wise hands of those who loved what they did and baked in the oven in the house.

Perfectly situated, it dominates the village, its two "terraces" overlooking the land that the family used to farm. The abundant water from its well guarantees fertile crops all year round.
